Water Bottles and Oil Dependence.
Americans, you and me if you have not yet changed, are drinking too much water out of plastic bottles that require oil to make them. According to the Pacific Institute. “Fact Sheet: Bottled Water and Energy – Getting to 17 Million Barrels.” December 2007, making bottles to meet America’s demand for bottled water uses more than 17 million barrels of oil annually, enough to fuel 1.3 million cars for a year !
Everyone that reads this has an opportunity to be part of the change to stop buying bottled water and switch to a smarter way to consume water; use tap water or filter your tap water with the best technology that is very cost effective, a solid carbon block filter.
Is Filtered Water Better Than Bottled Water
Research on bottled water has uncovered something amazing; tap water and filtered water is better for you than anything in a bottle, and a whole lot cheaper!
According to the Natural Resource Defense Council, a non-profit organization designed to address environmental issues, the plastic in water bottles could pose a health risk. Studies have shown that chemicals called phthalates, which are known to disrupt testosterone and other hormones, can leach into bottled water over time. One study found that water that had been stored for 10 weeks in plastic and in glass bottles contained phthalates, suggesting that the chemicals could be coming from the plastic cap or liner. Although there are regulatory standards limiting phthalates in tap water, there are no legal limits for phthalates in bottled water — the bottled water industry waged a successful campaign opposing the FDA proposal to set a legal limit for these chemicals.
Start your change by using tap water, or filtering your tap water with a good Solid Carbon Block filtration unit. I have been using the Multipure Filtration System for over 30 years. When I rented apartments, the system sat on the countertop, and when I bought my house, it was easily installed below the sink to provide clean water to the sink faucet, the refrigerator water and ice cube maker. What a cost savings! Multipure is one of the best and the first to design a Solid Carbon Block filtration unit system back in 1970. They have continued to improve and expand their product line through the years. Multipure is certified by the National Sanitation Foundation for their abililty to effectively remove the most unhealthy substances beyond what your local municipality removes. An above or under the sink unit retails for $399.00. I bought mine for $350.00 in 1986. The filters run about $70 each. We use two filters yearly costing approximately $140.00/ year. Think about not only how much you are spending for bottled water, but the secondary costs of the oil used, the effects on the environment, plastic bottle buildup and the myth of recycling these bottles. It really makes sense to try a new route for safer and saner hydration through filtration of your tap water, and or just drink your tap water.
Why You Need More Water.
Water intake and fluid balance are among the least understood and most neglected areas of overall health and weight management. Because water is very important to health, our bodies attempt to maintain a proper fluid and water balance at all times. If we do not drink enough water, our body will actually hold or “retain” fluid to carry out its processes.
Increasing water intake can actually decrease water retention and the bloating and added weight that accompanies’ it.
How Much Water Do I Need?
Drinking 1/2 your body weight in ounces each day can help you achieve your health goals.
I’m 110 lbs. So I need at least 55 fluid ounces of water daily; the equivalent of 7 cups daily.
